Teaching and Learning

We aspire to excellence at all times

'Aspire, Learn, Achieve together'

Our creative curriculum and our teaching styles are designed to stimulate learning of all kinds through rich, broad and relevant subject choices. We adhere to the National Curriculum objectives and the International Primary Curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on gaining the essential skills which are then enriched with a variety of wider curriculum experiences and opportunities for learning.

At the core of our curriculum is the belief that all children must become expert readers and competent in the basic skills of writing and mathematics. We are very proficient in teaching these skills and are proud of the positive impact this has on our pupils. Highly qualified and trained adults, smaller teaching groups and accountable success criteria are key to our success.

All subjects are important though and play a part in a child’s holistic education. Children need to be curious, resilient and keen to explore or question their world. Most non-core subjects are taught through topic areas where there is a clear focus to the learning. This work is lots of fun with ‘wow’ days, associated trips or visitors and an overarching sense of real purpose to the assignments.

The curriculum is delivered using a variety of approaches and teaching methods as appropriate to the subject matter and the needs of the children. Whole class, smaller group and individual teaching are all employed. We celebrate hard work and the children are well focussed and keen to achieve.

Children are treated as special individuals receiving the direction and support they need in order to reach their goals and celebrate their success and strengths. We encourage our pupils to engage in the learning. They are involved in setting and evaluating their targets and considering their next steps. The progress of individual children is tracked and monitored closely.

Parents too need to be well informed in their understanding of their child's learning. They are an essential part of our pupils success. Together we all make a difference.
