Early Years -Little Acorns

Our Foundation Class

Family and Friendship

Little Acorns is where the building blocks – the Foundation of learning- happens. Out of Little Acorns, Mighty Oaks will grow big and strong but only if the roots are deep. The environment is welcoming and engaging where children are secure and happy. Which enables them to be confident enough to try new activities.

Little Acorns are supported and encouraged in their learning; we ‘see’ mistakes as an important part of the learning process. Children who ‘have a go!’ are always praised. When something is achieved the Little Acorns are rewarded by stickers, a ‘High’ five or being moved up our reward chart.

Little Acorns spend their mornings focusing on Phonics, Literacy and Maths. Together with some topic-based literacy work. The activities are planned to cover all seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Some activities are child initiated and some adult led. Learning occurs both indoors and outdoors and is tailored to the children’s abilities and needs. At all times we endeavour to stimulate children with a love of learning and a quest for knowledge that will remain with them throughout their lives. The children’s interests are incorporated as much as possible into The Little Acorns' activities.

We spend a lot of time focusing on our motor skills, which involves lots of dancing, music and playdough! This helps the Little Acorns to write beautifully as they get older. We read and listen to lots of stories, play music and enjoy playing in our garden as well as the big playground. All Little Acorns have a Year 4 Buddy who looks after them when we are playing with the rest of the school.
