Mrs Calvert's Weekly Message

Dear Parents,

I thought that I would start this message with another 'thank you' for all your help over the last 5 weeks. Everyone at school has really gone the extra mile to provide a robust remote learning experience and we are very grateful for your help in maintaining the educational standards of your child. It is a challenge for us all!

We are really pleased to have secured virtual trips to support our remote learning programme. Year 1 are learning more about Windsor Castle through their topic on 'Tiaras and Turrets'. Year 2 are discovering more about Toys through 'The Magic Toymaker" supported by Reading Museum. Year 3 and 4 have been learning more about Roman and Egyptian civilisations through a virtual experience provided by Ufton Court. The Foundation children will be having the actual experience of watching duck eggs hatch for their topic in March. Until this happens, they will be working on a reading project through the story of 'Handa's Surprise'.

If your child would like to do something new, an exciting programme created by Chelsea Football Club called 'Check-in with Chelsea' looks fun. We have a relationship with this football club through Chelsea Dribblers. They have set up a virtual classroom with challenges across English, Maths, social or scientific endeavours and of course sport through google classroom. If you want to take part, you have to register through the link below.

The Maidenhead Advertiser are asking children to draw a picture of their mum to be published in their newspaper for Mothers' Day. If you are interested in doing this, your portraits need to be bright and bold. If you want to participate send your work to the office by Friday 19th February. It will need to have your child's first and second name, mother's first name and the name of the school printed on the bottom of the picture.

We have been approached by a company who will be producing a series based upon 'a simpler life' for the BBC. They are looking for participants who could say 'goodbye' to all the pressures of modern life. There is a leaflet attached below.

On Tuesday 9th February we will be celebrating Internet Day with a focus on the validity of what is on the Internet such as 'fake news'. Your teachers will be giving out more information on this.

Attached to this email are a range of camps to help with lockdown during half term together with more details on purchasing our school uniform. Thank you to everyone who has donated a laptop to school. Don't forget about the BBC initiative regarding second-hand laptops the link is

On Friday 12th February we close at 1pm for critical and vulnerable children in school. The school opens again on Monday 22nd February at the usual time. On this day our teachers will have a planning day.

On Tuesday 23rd February every teacher will be hosting a parent/child/teacher consultation throughout the day. This will enable every child to show their teacher what they have achieved through lockdown and receive the praise that they deserve. This can be booked in the usual way. There will be more booking details coming up.

On a final note, Epiphany and Candlemas are times in the Christian calendar where we reflect upon the visit of the wise men and how Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple when he was a small baby. Revd Ainsley has sent a link talking about this. Most of the children have seen this crib in the church and I am sure they would like to hear another story from Revd Ainsley Swift.
