Weekly message from Mrs Calvert

Dear parents

I have attached three pictures outlining some lessons from last week just to give you a flavour of what it was like for your child in school.

We have gone through a period of disruption, so it is probably prudent to outline some of the salient points from previous school messages especially in the light of new Government guidance, 'the rule of 6' and a virus that is gradually increasing.

As regards school organisation, we would request that all children's belongings e.g. lunches, snacks, water bottles, light coat etc are brought into school in a rucksack This is going to act as their personal space which will be kept under their table with all their belongings. Children don't necessarily need a big packed lunch box, or indeed a large lunch/snack; a smaller container may well suffice. No bookbags please as work will not be send home in the usual fashion. There will be more information on this next week.

We will maintain FRIDAYS as the day all children will have a dedicated PE session. If everyone can come to school in their full PE kit (including tracksuits or jogger bottoms/fleece and trainers) that would be appreciated.

Our school meals are now been prepared by the cook at Oldfield School in Maidenhead because of low demand. We are still just providing 'grab bags'.

As regards all our safety please ensure that your child is not in school if they are unwell. A lot of parents are being very considerate in this area, so thank you. If a child does come into school and then it is found that he/she has coronavirus then the whole class will have to isolate for 14 days. We want to avoid this happening because of the impact on our children's education and parents/staff's work commitments.

Children will be sent home if they have a persistent cough, cold or tummy ache regardless of their temperature. This is to reduce the general spread of other illness around the children and staff. There is a high degree of staff absence at this time of the year with chest infections etc which have been contracted in the classroom. It is going to be up to you as parents to make a decision as to whether you feel your child is fit and well to come to school. We will take a common sense approach to sending your children home. This initiative comes from the school's risk assessment which the Education Secretary is expecting every school in the country to undertake.

If for whatever reason your family or yourself takes a test for Covid 19 then they will need to stay at home until they receive a result. This will happen with staff members as well. If anyone tests positive for the virus you will all be notified.

Last week we had an isolated case of Covid 19 in Year 1. Due to our cautious approach we managed to contain the virus extremely quickly and only the Breakfast Club and Year 1 children were asked to isolate. According to Public Health England's advice, the child was only infectious whilst in Year 1. None of the staff in Year 1 or Foundation Stage nor the Y1 siblings had to self-isolate because of the way we had handled the classroom procedures. Over this period staff will be at home planning for lessons, preparing for new pupils etc. Our Breakfast club staff, however, have been asked to isolate as a precaution and our new children are starting school a little later than expected.

I will be sending our weekly emails with ongoing information. For day to day regular concerns please ring the school as normal, any questions regarding Covid 19 will be addressed by myself to ensure that any parental concerns are thoroughly addressed.

I hope that this helps.

Kind Regards
Susan Calvert
