Mrs Calvert's Weekly Message

Dear Parents,

This Friday 9th October children are supporting the charity Young Minds by bringing in 50p - £1 and coming to school in home clothes with a splash of yellow.

To give you the opportunity to meet your child's teacher and see how your child has settled into their new classroom, we are setting up virtual chats through WhatsApp for Year 2, 3 and 4. Year 1 have already had a call from their teachers (Mrs C Clarke and Mrs V Clark) and the Foundation children's parents have all had a phone conversation from Mrs Teeder.

Please book your slot as usual through eschools where the booking window opens on 6th October at 6pm. The dates are as follows:

Year 4         Friday 16th October from 9am to 3pm

Year 3         Friday 23rd October from 8am to 2pm

Year 2         Wednesday 21st October from 9am to 3pm

To support all our children's education, we will be starting to run some 'Wake Up' catch-up groups on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 8am to the start of the school day. These will be in classroom bubbles and as such involves a large number of staff members. This wlll be partially funded by the Government and if your child has been selected for one of these groups you will be informed by your child's teacher. These sessions will start after half term.

As regards our extended schools programme, there is not enough demand for our after school club - Squirrel Club, but we will be organising some early morning support on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays in these same classroom bubbles after half term. Initially parents need to commit to the three days every week and pay upfront. These children will be doing a work-based activity and food will initially not be provided. The cost will be £5 a session. If you have told the office that you would like this service, then you will be contacted during this week.

As we don't have a class rep for every classroom at the present, if any parents has any questions or a specific class WhatsApp has lots of parents concerned about a specific issue, please just email or call the school and we can immediately respond through our Whole School WhatsApp with an appropriate response.

Just a reminder that the window for registering your child for the flu nasal spray closes on Thursday 8th October. You have to register online.

The system of pick up and drop offs seem to greatly reduce the issues on Oakley Green Road. It is so important, however, for the safety of all our children that we all adhere to the Traffic Code of Conduct. We have a series of passing places and if parents park on the double yellow lines then they are causing unnecessary congestion. It is essential that parents do not pull up on or near the collection point at the main school or the Church House because you may knock down a child/parent. Similarly, three-point turns are dangerous because if you are not seen by oncoming traffic then you are risking the lives of everyone in your car alongside any other family who may be walking on the pavement. This is why we ask everyone to be sensible on this busy road.

For the parents of children in Year 3, they are being taught in the Church House at present as there has been some storm damage in their classroom. This should take a week or two to repair.

Half Term starts from Friday 23rd October and school closes at 2pm.

Finally, we are asking for every child to have a pair of wellington boots in school so that they can play on the field. Thank you

Kind regards

Susan Calvert
